And I believed it

You see I always thought that being scared to fail in life
你看 我曾一直以为在生活中害怕失败
Would literally keep me from failing
真的能让我不失败
I would look at the losers around me and I would say
我看着我周围的失败者 然后对我自己说
I never want to turn out like him
我才不想变得和他一样呢
I really believe this train of thought would help me succeed
我真的相信这样的想法会帮助我成功
Until one day
直到有一天
I was walking down the street and I saw an old man
我走在街上 看见一个老人
Had a hat, suspenders and a cane was about 80 years old
戴着顶帽子 穿着背带裤 拄着拐杖 大概80岁的样子
This old man was barely walking
这位老人颤颤巍巍地走着
He could walk but the cane helped a lot
他能走路 但拐杖帮了他很多
He was struggling
他努力地蹒跚着
So anyway he was walking across the street
不管怎样 他走完了一条街
And he ended up falling
最后摔倒了
So I went over to go help him
我走过去扶他起来
And he gets up says thank you and
他起来后跟我说了声谢谢
We introduced ourselves had a little conversation
然后我们就相互介绍自己 短暂地交流了一会
Told me his name and I told him mine

His name was Robert by the way
老人的名字是Robert
And right as he walked away I told him this is what I said

Robert you should stay inside where it’s safe, my friend

And Robert turns around and says to me

I love walking

And I love walking way more than I’m afraid of falling

So I asked him, well what about your safety

Don’t you want to live

And he told me this these are the exact words he said he said this
他跟我说了这样一段话
Solo, living means doing what you love to do

And if I had to fall here and there to do what I want to do in life
如果跌倒时我走路时所要付出的代价的话
Then so be it
那就跌倒呗
And he just walked away,never saw him again
然后他就离开了 我再也没有看到过他

But that statement really had me thinking

Because I learned something that day

That’s what I realized the true key to success

You see I always thought if I could just fear the act of failing

And if I fear it like crazy

I will succeed

Because I thought the fear

Would magically motivate me to get out there

And start taking action

But after that day
但从那以后
I realized something
我领悟到了一些事情
I realized it’s the love for success
我意识到了是对成功的热爱
That will lead me to succeeding
才能让我有所成就
So just imagine if Robert feared falling
所以想象一下 如果Robert 害怕跌倒
Would he even start walking
那他还会开始走路吗
Of course not
当然不会
He wouldn’t even do what he loved to do
他甚至不会去尝试他热爱的走路
He would sit at home and take no type of action
他就只会坐在家中一动也不动
But he loved walking wasn’t even scared to fall
但是因为他热爱走路 甚至爱到都不怕跌倒
It gave him life
这给予他生命力
That’s what allowed him to get up and do it
让他有力量站起来 继续前行
He loved walking so much
他是如此深爱着走路
He was willing to fall 10 times a day
他会愿意一天跌倒十次
Just to do it
只为了走路
And you have to be the same

So the next time someone tells you
